Waste Water Treatment Plant, Kilrush, Co. Clare

Project Name: Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Address: Skagh Point & Frances Street, Kilrush, Co Clare
Value: €3,480,000
Client:  EPS

Description:
This major wastewater infrastructure project involved the construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) at Skagh Point, Kilrush, alongside the upgrade of the existing pump station at Frances Street and the replacement of approximately 2 km of rising main.

At Skagh Point, the works included the development of a new WWTP on the existing tidal holding tank. The project incorporated new treatment tanks and additional stormwater storage facilities, providing enhanced wastewater treatment capacity and improved resilience during periods of increased flows.

At Frances Street, the existing pumping station and control room were upgraded, together with the construction of a new stormwater storage tank with a capacity of 120 litres. The works also included new access gates and fencing, landscaping, and associated civil and site infrastructure.

The electrical infrastructure was upgraded through the construction of a new ESB substation, together with associated works to support the upgraded pumping and treatment facilities.

The project delivers significant improvements to Kilrush’s wastewater infrastructure, enhancing treatment performance, stormwater management, operational reliability, and the long-term resilience of the local wastewater network.
